Collection Notice

The Roman Catholic Trust Corporation for the Diocese of Townsville (RCTC) collect personal information, including sensitive information. This may be in writing, through technology systems or in the course of conversations.

The primary purpose of collecting this information is to enable the RCTC to provide services, exercise their duty of care, and perform necessary associated administrative activities. Some of the information collected is to satisfy legal obligations.

Laws governing or relating to the operation of the RCTC require certain information to be collected and disclosed. These include relevant Education Acts, Public Health and Child Protection laws. Health information about pupils is sensitive information within the terms of the Australian Privacy Principles (APPs) under the Privacy Act 1988. Some agencies of the RCTC may ask you to provide medical reports  from time to time. Personal information collected from underage persons is regularly disclosed to their parents or guardians.

The RCTC may disclose personal information, including sensitive information, held about an individual for education, administrative and support purposes to:

  • agencies of the Catholic Diocese of Townsville, parishes and other related church entities.
  • people and organisations providing administrative, technology and financial services to the
  • a law practice, debt recovery agency and/or location inquiry agent engaged by or on behalf of the diocese or to a court or tribunal, for the purpose of the Diocese collecting or enforcing any rights of recovery of overdue payments owed.
  • recipients of publications, such as newsletters and magazines.
  • anyone you authorise the Diocese to disclose information to.
  • anyone to whom we are required or authorised to disclose the information by law.

If an enrolment application is made to two (or more) schools in the same diocese, the personal information provided during the application stage may be shared between the schools, and may include health information and is used for the purpose of considering and administering the enrolment of the student.

The Diocese may use online or 'cloud' service providers to store personal information and to provide services  that involve the use of personal information. This information may be stored in the ‘cloud’ which may be situated outside Australia. Further details are contained in the diocesan Privacy Policy accessible on relevant websites.

The diocesan Privacy Policy sets out how individuals may seek access to and correction of their personal information which the Diocese has collected and hold. However, access may be refused in certain circumstances such as where access would have an unreasonable impact on the privacy of others. Any refusal will be notified in writing with reasons if appropriate.

The diocesan Privacy Policy and the diocesan  Complaints Management Policy also sets out how individuals can make a complaint about a breach of the APPs and how the complaint will be handled.

The Diocese may engage in fundraising activities. Information received from you may be used to make an appeal to you. It may also be disclosed to organisations that assist in fundraising activities solely for that purpose. The Diocese will not disclose your personal information to third parties for their own marketing purposes without your consent.

On occasion, information is published in bulletins, newsletters and magazines, intranet, social media pages, websites or otherwise shared with the diocesan community. This may include photographs and videos of activities such as sporting events, concerts, masses and assemblies. 

 If you provide the Diocese with the personal information of a third party, we encourage you to inform them that you are disclosing that information and why.
