Music Across Our Diocese

Music is an important part of the liturgical life of our Diocese, enriching our worship, supporting the prayer of the community and encouraging the full participation of all who gather.

Across our parishes, a wide range of liturgical music is offered, including sacred, traditional and contemporary repertoire. Music is carefully selected to reflect the Scripture readings, liturgical season and character of each celebration. Whether led by a choir, cantor, organist, pianist, guitarist or other instruments, music serves the liturgy and helps bring our celebrations to life. 

Music at Sacred Heart Cathedral

Sacred Heart Cathedral has a vibrant musical tradition, with live music provided at most celebrations. The 10:00am Solemn Mass each Sunday features the Cathedral Choir, together with cantors and psalmists. Weekly rehearsals are held for the choir, which also supports significant Cathedral celebrations throughout the year.

The Cathedral is home to a three-manual organ, including a 32′ Contra Violone in the pedal division. The organ plays an important role in the musical and liturgical life of the Cathedral, with professional musicians using the instrument to accompany the choir, cantors, congregational singing and the liturgy, particularly at the 10:00am Sunday Mass and major celebrations.

Live music also features prominently at weddings, funerals and other gatherings at the Cathedral. Weddings are supported by local musicians, with music carefully selected to complement the sacred nature of the celebration.

Diocesan Choir and Special Celebrations

Our Diocesan Choir brings together singers from parishes and communities across the Diocese and leads the music at major diocesan liturgies and large gatherings throughout the year.

Each December, Sacred Heart Cathedral also presents Carols @ The Cathedral, bringing together singers and musicians for a joyful celebration of Christmas music in the beautiful setting of the Cathedral.

Get Involved

We warmly encourage people to share their musical gifts within our Cathedral and parishes. Singers, cantors, psalmists, pianists, organists, guitarists and other instrumentalists are welcome to become involved in the musical and liturgical life of our Diocese.
