Synod for the Diocese of Townsville
Bishop Tim Harris Convenes 3rd Diocesan Synod for Townsville
Bishop Tim Harris, Bishop of Townsville, has officially convoked the 3rd Synod of the Diocese of Townsville, set to begin on Friday, June 12, 2026, the Solemnity of the Most Sacred Heart of Jesus.
This significant event, the first Diocesan Synod since 1958, responds to the paastoral needs of the Diocese through prayerful discernment and consultation. The Synod will bring together clergy, religious, and lay faithful to reflect on how the local Church can more faithfully live out its mission.
A Decree and explanatory Preamble are available at all Masses, and preparations are now underway, guided by a newly formed Preparatory Commission. Bishop Harris emphasises that this is not merely another program, but a Spirit-led process aimed at fostering a more synodal Church rooted in communion, participation, and mission.
