Novena of prayer for our Bishop-Elect Timothy Harris: 24 April – 2 May

All the communities of the diocese for which the bishop is to be ordained should be made ready in an appropriate
manner for the celebration of the ordination. (19).
You are invited to begin each day of this novena with silent reflection on an antiphon from the liturgy of that day.  Then pray the intercessions.

Intercessions

God of grace and mercy, we pray that you will be with our Bishop-elect Tim as he prepares for his episcopal ordination.  We join our voices across our diocese in prayer for him:
May he receive the gift to exercise pastoral government over the people of God entrusted to his care.
God of grace and mercy, hear our prayer.
May he receive the gift to guard the deposit of faith, entire and incorrupt, as handed down by the Apostles and preserved in the Church everywhere and at all times.
May he receive the gift to build up the Body of Christ, his Church, and remain in the unity of that Body  together with the Order of Bishops under the authority of the successor of St Peter the Apostle.
May he receive the gift to guide the holy People of God in the way of salvation as a devoted father and sustain them with the help of his fellow ministers, the priests.
May he receive the gift to be welcoming and merciful, for the sake of the Lord’s name, to the poor, to strangers, and to all who are in need.
May he receive the gift to be a good shepherd, seek out the sheep who stray and gather them into the Lord’s fold.
May he receive the gift to pray without ceasing to almighty God for the holy people and carry out his office of High Priest without reproach.
May he receive the gift to preach the word of God with all patience and sound teaching.
May God pour out upon him the oil of mystical anointing and make him fruitful with an abundance of spiritual blessings.
May his ring be a reminder of the seal of fidelity.
May he receive the gift to lead new disciples to Christ.
May he receive the gift to be faithful to the celebration of the sacraments.
Pour out now upon Bishop-elect, Tim, that power which is from you, the governing Spirit, whom you gave to your beloved Son, Jesus Christ, the Spirit whom he bestowed upon the holy Apostles, who established the Church in each place as your sanctuary for the glory and unceasing praise of your name.  We ask this in your grace and mercy through Christ our Lord.

Amen.
