A New Parish for Our Diocese: The Personal Parish of St Teresa's Garbutt
We are delighted to share the joyful news that a Decree has been signed to officially erect the Personal Parish of St Teresa's, Garbutt, which will take effect from Sunday 26 October 2025.
This newly established parish has been created to serve the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Catholic community across our Diocese - a place of belonging, faith and cultural celebration. Other members of Christ's faithful are also warmly welcome to join the parish community, either by registering formally or by regularly attending its liturgical celebrations.
Those who become part of the Personal Parish of St Teresa's will continue to remain members of their local territorial parish, walking together in faith and community.
We are pleased to announce that Fr Emene Kelemete has been appointed as the inaugural Administrator for one year, and Trudy Clarke as the inaugural Pastoral Ministry Coordinator.
Please keep this new parish, and our First Peoples, in your prayers as we celebrate this special milestone and give thanks for the growing life of our Church.
