The Daughters of Mary, an institute for women was founded by the Most Rev Teopisto V Alberto DD with Rev Mother Mary Therese L Vicente DM, as collaborator on 11 October, 1966 in the Archdiocese of Caceres, Naga City, Philippines. On 12 November, 2009 Archbishop Leonardo Z Legaspi OP DD and the Duperior general responded to the invitation of Bishop Michael Putney Putney to establish a religous community of Daughters of Mary Sisters in the Diocese of Townsville. Three sisters - Nicolasa Purcia, Carmencita Ricrafrente and Alma De La Cruz Gueriba arrived in Townsville to start their ministry. Sr Nicolasa works part-time at the Mater Hospital in pastoral care as well as part-time in the Diocesan Office working particularly closely with the Filipino community. Sr Carmencita works full-time as a childcare provider at the Mary MacKillop Childcare Centre in Kirwan. Sr Alma works full-time as a childcare provider at the Mary MacKillop Childcare Centre in Mundingburra.
