Occupational Health

The Diocese of Townsville is committed to the Health and Safety of its employees, students, parishioners, volunteers and visitors in every area of activity. The Diocese of Townsville is committed to minimizing risk eliminating hazards and promoting a safe and healthy (working) environment.

It is the policy of the Diocese of Townsville that equipment, workplaces and practices shall at least comply with relevant regulations and standards.

Objectives:

To ensure a safe and healthy (work) environment for all employees, students, contractors and visitors to the workplace by,

  • Providing safe workplaces, equipment and plant; using the Risk Management approach to identifying Hazards and controlling Risks associated with the Hazards.

  • Providing safety training and information for all employees to reduce the incidence of injury.

  • Encouraging consultation between management and employees to promote a safe and healthy working environment.

  • Providing appropriate protective clothing and equipment and instruction in its use where it is not practicable to eliminate hazards in the workplace.

  • Reducing risks related to the handling of hazardous substances or plant used at the workplace.

Within this policy the Diocese of Townsville recognizes all management and supervisory staff must be committed to the objectives if they are to be achieved.

Employees also have a fundamental duty to themselves, fellow employees, students and visitors to adapt and maintain the highest possible standards of occupational health and safety in their work activities.
