EVANGELISATION AND CHRISTIAN STEWARDSHIP STEWARDSHIP is important for the mission of the Church and for the spiritual well-being of each individual Christian.Stewardship is a spirituality for life that challenges the Christian disciple to foster a sense of gratitude, responsibility and generosity through the better use of time, talent and treasure. Pope Benedict XVI has called for more people to become good stewards and said every one benefits from the sacrificial gift one makes of his time, talent and treasure. Christian Stewardship education and formation helps children and young people realise they are a unique gift from God, understand that they have special talents and gifts, and discover all that God has given them. Children and young people are the most precious gift of every parish and a stewardship way of life could be an effective way of helping children see not only do they belong to the parish but that the parish needs their presence, their gifts and their contribution. Stewardship practices provide a variety of strategies and experiences that help connect children and the parish school into the daily life, activities and the resourcing of the parish. There is a hope Christian stewardship could well be the framework to encourage a more collaborative and holistic approach to the faith formation of young people, and strengthen the bonds between parish and school. The spirituality of Christian Stewardship is beginning to find a home in the Catholic life of the Townsville diocese. Recent visitors from Florida USA, Ed and April Laughlin inspired gatherings of parishioners and educators with their message of Christian Stewardship and their enthusiastic portrayal of Christian stewardship as a way of life for the Christian who aspires to be a disciple of Jesus. Mary Mackillop Parish Mundingburra, at the parish assembly in 2010, made the decision to become a stewardship parish. A parish stewardship team has been quietly working away in the parish to begin to make this a reality. The team includes chairman Ken Theodore, secretary Cheryl Elliott, Craig Drennan, Michelle Jones; Suzette Regalo; Sr Carmencita, Julie Plath and Lorraine Abel.
