About the Social Justice Committee (SJC)

The Social Justice Committee and parish representatives  endeavour to be people who are:

• are familiar with the Catholic Social Teachings

• are well informed on current issues and are able  to assist in the formation of others

• strive to be peaceful people

• strive  not to be confrontational

Functions

1. Engage in ongoing group formation on matters of current social concern
2. Identify and call attention to current and ongoing issues of social concern
3. Facilitate   access to information through a variety of means e.g. newsletters, bulletins, formation opportunities, guest speakers etc      
4. Encourage individuals, groups and parish communities to become informed on social issues and to take action in their local area
5. Raise issues and work cooperatively with diocesan authorities and other diocesan agencies to ensure a more socially just diocesan environment
6. Maintain networks of information within and beyond the local church and society.
