Respect Life Lecture

On Thursday, 2 November, 2006 Fr Bill Uren sj visited the diocese at the invitation of the Respect Life Committee to present a public lecture on "The Catholic Church and Stem Cell Research", which included the status of the embryo and related issues, including the current state of legislation on these matters.

Father Bill Uren is a Jesuit priest and is the Rector of Newman College at the University of Melbourne. He is a graduate of the Universities of Melbourne, Sydney and Oxford and the Melbourne College of Divinity, and has lectured in moral philosophy and bioethics at the University of Melbourne, the University of Queensland and Murdoch and Edith Cowan Universities in Perth. Among other commitments in the field, he has just completed a six year term on the Australian Health Ethics Committee, one of the four principal committees of the National Health and Medical Research Council.
